I have synthesized NiO nanoparticles by using solid state thermolysis method by using a precursor material. The resulted nanoparticles are not pure NiO rather i found impuritis of K2CO3 from XRD. From UV-Vis obsorption spectra i found two absorption peaks one at 270 nm and the second one at 490 nm. Please help how to interpretaion the absorption peak at 490 nm.

NiO has a green color. The green absorption region is 500-560 nm. Your product is contaminated with impurities. Therefore, the region of the absorption spectrum is slightly changed.

how the spectra were recorded? In solid state or You dissolved the samples in some solvent? Due to nickel ion easily forms different complexes and positions of peaks depend on nature of ligand. For example, Ni(OH)2 give two peaks at ~400 and ~650 nm (see http://dx.doi.org/10.1098/rspa.2014.0792), nickel-hydrazine complexes - near 350 and 550 nm, etc.

Thank you madam for your response. the spectra were recorded in deionized collidial wateR solution. the synthesized nanoparticles are not pure NiO rather the resudial compound K2CO3 are also present and confirmed by XRD and EDAX.
