We have an old container with dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC), which has developed a hard glassy surface. Will dissolution in dichloromethane and filtration of the urea assist with the purification?
DCC is usually "glassy". You need often to smash it depending of the supplier. Anyway if you have DCU inside, dissolution in dichloromethane and filtration is a good idea for its removal
DCC can be also purified by vacuum distillation (see Purification of Laboratory Chemicals, http://books.google.pl/books?id=4ViVUQi7Z60C&lpg=PA946&dq=purification%20of%20dcc&hl=pl&pg=PA246#v=onepage&q&f=false).
