Congenital CMV infections are not rare. It causes deafness, visual impairment, mental retardation in babies. Chances of acquiring congenital infections are there in both primary and non primary CMV infections to mothers. Despite of serious risk to the babies there is no effective CMV screening program for pregnant women world wide. Each of the countries of the world would have CMV screening program for pregnant women- are you in favor of it?

What would the consequences be if we screen for it and when would be the best time to do it?
What would the therapy be?
I think we need to ask ourselves these questions before embarking on a screening program. Maybe investing in vaccination for CMV it is the better option?
