I am conducting research into the transition from in-person to online "distance learning" around the world, specifically in higher education. I wanted to get a discussion going so we can see what other educators and institutions are doing to continue educating students during this transition.
Specifically, I am interested in seeing what parts of the distance-learning transition worked the best for you as educators and what parts of the transition were not the best and should be addressed in future policies.
Really, this pandemic is opening our eyes towards the E-services in all aspects of our life including teaching process.

I use BigBlueButton, Zoom, Video Capture, and Model.
I use Zoom and Teams.. ı also use skype and whatsApp for discussion and answering to questions of students...
I use zoom plus video clips. Yes Teams is another good opportunity.
For now, I am using Facebook Group Chat and Gmail,cuz of slow internet in some remote areas here in the Philippines, the last recourse throughmy students' text literally.

Young students in the Arab world are gadget freak and they love screen time, so inviting them to online platform was easy but the challenge was their participation in discussion, they prefer to be observers rather than be active learners.
I think before the COVID-19 pandemic, most Western universities have had their distance and online programs for over 20 years or more. The shock of the change was faced mostly at universities in developing countries. After COVID-19 crisis, I think Western universities will invest more in online learning and could expand its use. Not sure about countries with limited resources or traditional or inflexible systems what they will do.

The global epidemic has led to online classes for students. I learned new possibilities of conducting online classes.
The impact is significant and affected the delivery of the curriculum, the conduct of examinations, and on going research. It also affected teaching staff, researchers and planning for projects. However, we need to examine what did we learn from the situation? How can we be ready if there is another disaster or crisis? This is important- lessons learnt inn practice.
In Germany, where digital learning is still deemed innovation, mostly 50+ aged instructors faced difficulties due to lack of competencies in software use, digital teaching concepts and lack of examination policies.
Education during COVID 19 is a very hectic task which needs a holistic approach ,but at the moment the developed countries had switched to the virtual distance learning process but the major problem and point of concern is the developing countries who might have to wait till the end or partial end of the pandemic before they can resume the face-to-face teaching learning processes , which would definitely keep those affected countries to the bottom of development around the world.
This pandemic is actually changing the world in a million different ways and one of these way is how higher education is functioning. This no doubt, is a move towards globalizing the online education. In Developed and developing countries, higher institutions of learning are now seing the potential need of online learning.
We have been using a virtual platform made available by the institution for two months. What we realize is that students have a hard time assimilating content in this way, but slowly the teaching and learning process is improving. The great difficulty is that, in general, students do not interact, or interact very little, with the teacher, because they are not used to working in these new environments. These environments have a lot of potential and should be included in future policies.
Hi! The transitions towards virtual delivery in classes required consideration on certain factors to make it more effective. certain factors are related to instructors side such as flexibility, interactions, engagements etc need to be established with the students. on the other hand from the students side time management, self initiatives are required. The no of hours weekly spent for certain module should be cleared out. As virtual classes require the release and submission of assignments online hence maintaining time is very important for both parties. policies should include on how to deal with pending classes, assignments in virtual platform to make it more effective. Hello Andrew. Greetings from Bangladesh. Thanks for putting a nice discussion topic. The higher education institutions in Bangladesh are in a mixed state to welcome online education at this time of COVID19 pandemic. Broadly, the public universities are lagging behind than private universities. The fear of loosing jobs or salaries is the main driving force for being proactive to implement online education. Generally, students are not very willing to continue with study online. LMS and video conferencing applications are being used for online classes. UGC of Bangladesh and the Education Ministry are also encouraging to use online platforms for distant education at this period. But, UGC is not clear with its directives about online students' evaluation. Online exams are presumably not dependable and authentic approach of evaluation. A big portion of teachers are not comfortable with open-book exams or case-based evaluation or creative question evaluation methods. I personally hope that the situation of online education will be better in all respect in time. And, we have no other choice, because we are not going back to our previous 'normal' time rather entering a 'new normal' time.

This sounds very interesting and indeed very relevant. In my case one on one tutorials worked very well on zoom and the use of the White board allowed me to write clearly etc.
With larger groups, it was not always easy to get to everyone considering lowerlow attention span and general fatigue from being in front of a screen.
I don't think online teaching or for that matter any type of teaching should be required to be observed as though on is a teacher in training as this contributes to detering colgioa relationships at very difficult time.

It is hard to give a certain answer because is we are developing this kind of education, but about the impacts on instructors are diverse, for instance, I can see that professors are taking courses to take advantage in new technologies, in special, using page webs, applications and others. Also, some of them are worried about how develop new materials of teaching because face to face learning is different from distance learning.
Some positive aspects are that professors can have more time when they started to control how the distance learning works, so that they can use that time to advance new research or take online courses because is a little affordable nowadays. Further, educators are training new abilities such as create blogs, profile researcher and others because some of them before the Covid-19 was busy or not friendly with internet.
Finally, I know that some educators are more busy and get stressed because they don't be prepared for the changes or they don't have computer and internet at home. The last issue happens in specific parts of Perú. So, as a society we need to understand how professors are working now and take note that there are advantages and disadvantages of far learning.
