How far is the presence of covalent bonds likely to influence electrical and magnetic properties of spinel ferrites? Is there any method to obtain quantitative assessment of the percentage of covalent bonding present in primarily ionic materials?
Degree of ionic bonding can be calculated from the following equation:
F(I) = exp(-0.25*ΔE^2)
Where F(I) is the fraction of ionic bonding and ΔE is the difference between electronegativities of the elements of interest.
