You can read my paper (see below) to find lovely examples of this. I am Canadian, but I worked in the US for a while, and some of their documents illustrate very well what "productive stuggle" in mathematics looks like in the classroom - what the teacher is doing, what the students are doing....
There is a lot of work being done in the US by the NCTM regarding productive struggle. You can download the executive summary for free at http://www.nctm.org/PtA/
