The mitochondrial marker we used in the paper you cited, is not suitable to infer meaningful phylogenetic relationships due to the type of mutation (mainly large indels). However there a phylogeny of the genus has been reconstructed by Xiang et al. 2009 but without timing. There is also a review by Linares 2011 about the biogeography of mediterranean Abies, but I am not sure if there are sufficient data to support the hypotheses presented there. I would not feel confident to propose a hypothesis about this at them moment without additional data.
