Dear Nora, in our Institution a 15-member committee consisting of internal and external professors evaluates the following criteria: number and quality of publications; any publications in journals with impact factor; citations; teaching in master programmes. Some other parameters are also taken into consideration, such as whether the candidate is a reviewer in scientific journals;participates in or coordinates research projects; supervises PhD students, etc.

Our university use the following criteria: 

number of publications (e.g., articles, books, translations, etc.), quality of publications (e.g., local or international), number of scientific activities (e.g., conferences, workshops, seminars, etc.), amount of campus committee work (permanent or temporary), number of consultations (government, business, etc.), number of professional activities (e.g., edit journal), number of times supervising student research (Master or doctoral), and number of times teaching in a classroom.

It's more or less the same for our University, but the attached gives more details.

in Austria and germany you are ony evaluated to become a full-time professor. once you got the job, there are no longer any evaluations.

In Kazakhstan there are special requirements to evaluate profeessors. First of all, the work of experience, scientific publications, participation in scientific projects etc. Secondly, a professor should work in one sphere about 3-5 years in one job. 

In most Australian universities there are annual 'performance' reviews with teaching evaluated using, amongst others, student evaluations of teaching; and evaluations of research productivity (grants, publications, higher degree supervision). Service to the institution and to one's professional community is also reviewed but not usually according to measures.

Full time Professor must be evaluated in  an evidence-based practices in terms of their "Performance Indicators and commitment to the university functions."

Performance Indicators are:

1. Student Evaluation  (mastery of the course content, innovation in teaching and professional ethics;

2. Research Productivity (number of researches projects, publication, poster presentation, national and international conferences);

Commitment:

1. Attendance to university events;

2. Collaboration to industry on faculty and student activities; and, 

3.Commendations from supervisor, colleagues and students.

Two methods are in place, an online  assessment is done by students which is also accessible to lecturers and at the end of the year, an annual staff review (ASR) is completed by the lecturer accompanied by a letter of suitability from the Department Head. The lecturer is involved fully in this process.

Being the President of a Government approved degree awarding private tertiary institution in Hong Kong, I have formal and vigorous appraisal process for all teaching and non-teaching staff members. The overall target of all the appraisal processes in the College will, to a certian extent, link with the survival of the College.  Then, relevant performances should be able to address this important issue.   The financial aspect has a heavy weighing. Your fund raising abilities, college branding improving abilities, things that are being done well resulting in students' satisfaction and employers' satisfaction.........Among many, the ability to teach well is very important.

Do you mean for tenure and promotion or in terms of student satisfaction? If you mean for tenure and promotion as well as periodic review than there is a portfolio put together by each faculty member where they are evaluated based on Teaching Quality, Research, and Service. Within each categories are specifics unique to each discipline.

One of the Universities where I works has a very complete system of evaluation. They combine teacher's asssesment based on student, peers and head of department evaluations. 

Faculty in the U.S. are generally evaluated each year through self-assessment tools that measure their teaching, preparation, research, service to the university by committee work or other school-supportive involvements, and activity in their academic discipline. Student evaluations of teaching, semester by semester, are usually included with evidences in the self-assessment. This report goes to the academic dean or provost and is kept on file. Promotion and tenure decisions are made using these reports, along with other evidences required by the faculty handbook of the university. While these handbooks vary by university, they generally follow a nationally accepted format. Faculty are expected to meet the standards of the national or international organization that represents or accredits their academic discipline (e.g. psychology, mathematics, journalism.)

The evaluation of teachers is one of the directions of educational assessment, taking into account that in the process of teaching - learning subjects involved various interactive Director and indirect, in this case the teacher is one of the subjects directly involved. Generally teachers are evaluated on an ongoing basis, although there are semi cuts and can be annual.

In assessing the teacher must take into account: self-assessment, evaluation of students, other teachers and immediate supervisors.

Aspects to be evaluated include: teaching work, methodological work, training and research and extension work.

In any case it should be a comprehensive assessment, where qualitative and anthropological aspects predominate.
