I have visited some places and decided to take sea grass samples. I didn't carry any sampling equipment beside tissue and plastic with seal. It needs 2 days to reach the lab. I tried to wash the sample in the freshwater for a while and separate it from any sand and epyphytes then dry it using tissue before saving it in the sealed plastic. After that, I tried to keep it fresh using ice until it was carried to the lab. Is that method appropriate to keep the sample before handling it in the lab? Are there any other methods?
Take silica gel with you to the field in a sealed container. Zip-Lok plastic bags are very useful, and reusable, Find silica gel in small packages as found in pill bottles at the chemist's, keep them dry, and use them. Bake them at low heat and regenerate your used silica gel.
