Could someone please assist by providing relevant information regarding current research underway and recent publications regarding the politics-administration dichotomy relating to public sector reform? Thank you greatly for your assistance.
Dear Neale, I attached a recent paper in which we have reviewed and examined NPM; Outsourcing and Decesntralization. I hope it be of interest for you.
Did New Public Management (NPM) actually lead to a smaller public sector? NPM has been the subject of extensive academic debate as to its successes and failures.
However, empirical assessments of whether NPM reached its stated objectives are relatively scarce, mainly due to the difficulty of quantifying the impact of such reforms. This article attempts to do this, focusing in particular on outsourcing and decentralization.
Our findings suggest that government outsourcing did not reduce public sector size, though decentralization policies resulted in a smaller public sector, particularly with regard to government expenditure.
This recent article presents some fascinating new evidence: John Alford et al (2016) Into the Purple Zone: Deconstructing the Politics/Administration Distinction.
As I also study the theme I would like to recommend some useful insights:

Dear Daniel, thank you greatly for the paper on NPM, outsourcing and decentralization. This paper contributes well to research I have already undertaken, and the manuscripts I am currently drafting.
Dear Megan, thank you greatly for suggesting the research article by John Alford et al (2016). This is exactly the type of research findings that I was seeking.
Dear Catalina, thank you greatly for taking the time to provide an assortment of very interesting articles. These articles are also exactly what I was seeking.
