There are a variety of sources from FAO and WHO which might also be of interest?
In India, IS CODE is published on water quality requirements for Irrigation water , u can check website of "Bureau of Indian stranded"
Recently such guidelines have been formulated by NENA countries by AWC, Cairo

Links to Water quality standards of Nigeria can help provide such information as it is applicable in Nigeria. in addition to this i know also that water quality for construction, agriculture and irrigation should not fall short of the tolerable standards for water quality with respect to hardness, turbidity, pH, heavy metals, and other physical properties such as colour, odour, and taste; so that structures constructed with such water will not have adverse effect on the durability and usefulness of such structures. in agriculture and irrigation these qualities are more important because any water applied outside the tolerable boundary will affect the growth and yield of crops and through bioaccumulation pose a threat to animals and man.
