We have conducted a study on the role and impact of primary (elementary) school staffrooms (teachers' lounge) and are looking for recent pieces of literature in this area.
I have not done much research here, but I know that's where the "real" meeting of the minds take place in the school. See the link below for what's available on RG. I think your research is much needed.
While not specifically focused on school staff rooms, my research has looked at workplace learning in general and lunch /tea rooms have been quite conducive spaces in terms of learning.
This is such an important topic -- I look forward to reading what you find. There have been two book-length studies of the teachers' room in Israeli schools: one by Anat Keinan (1996) and the other by Miriam Ben-Peretz and Shifra Shonmann. It appears that the latter was published also in English:
Ben-Peretz, M. & Schonmann, S. (2000). Behind closed doors: Teachers and the role of the teachers' lounge. New York: State University of New York Press.
Hi Alison, Peter Woods' excellent ethnography The Divided School (1979) has a chapter on the use of humour in the staffroom. It's not a recent piece, but I think it's still relevant. Best wishes, Rafael
