For Start-to-Start relationship, the tunneling activities and excavation shoring would be a good example. The excavation shoring depends on the tunneling activity as it cannot start without it, but it must be a start to start relationship, or else the tunnel will collapse and you won't be able to carry out further tunneling.
For the Finish-to-Finish, I usually explain it to my students in terms of two trades working on the same job, and need to synchronize their final outcome. For example to make sure the plastering is in the same level of the doors and windows, they should be in a F-F relationship to make sure they are leveled.
I frankly never encountered Start-to-Finish relationship in real life. Most of the examples in the link provided by Zamani can be easily done by Finish-to-Start or they are not a construction activity and more of managerial tasks, and can again be translated to Finish-to-Start.
- a Finish to Start (FS) logic tie means that Activity/ies A must be completed (finished) before Activity/ies B can begin (start)
- a Start to Start (SS) logic tie means that when one activity starts then another can start
- a Start to Finish (SF) logic tie means that activity A must start before activity B can finish
- a Finish to Finish (FF) logic tie means that when one activity finishes then another can finish
Examples:
FS- Erect exterior block walls First Floor (activity A) has to be done before filling block cores with concrete and set lintels First Floor (activity B) starts
SS- Order/Deliver, Concrete for Block cores and Order/Deliver/ Stock, reinforcing for Bond Beams Second Floor (activity C) can start when filling block cores with concrete and set lintels First Floor (activity B) has started
SF- Order/Deliver, Concrete for Block cores and Order/Deliver/ Stock, reinforcing for Bond Beams Second Floor (activity C) must start before fill block cores with concrete and set lintels Second Floor can finish (activity D).
It is not necessary for the delivery of concrete to be finished to be able to start filling the cores.
FF- When Second Floor Interior Walls Framing (activity E) finished then Exterior and interior walls and beams inspection and approval (activity F) can finish.
