Most of the wild scallops in the literatures have been collected monthly and the data showed that protein mobilizes from adductor muscle to gonad. However, there is also evidence that protein mobilizes from mantle to gonad in mussels/oysters. Since this monthly interval might skip the short-term mobilization of protein from adductor muscle to mantle. Could protein be mobilized from adductor muscle to mantle before going to gonad in scallops? Many thanks.
Perhaps , proteins move through the bloodstream and if needed could be transported from adductor muscle to mantle. However , cells are responsible for synthesizing proteins , which are then transported to tissues.
All bivalves have large blood sinus in a posterior adductor muscle. For sure, with blood circulation any protein could spread from the adductor to any tissue in the body, in any part of the body. There is no realistic difference in arrival time between mantle and gonad – seconds if ever.
