I have to synthesize silver nanorods as a part of my project. Initially, I decided to synthesize only silver nanoparticles for which I added an appropriate concentration of silver nitrate to cold sodium borohydride and I got a yellow colour solution. I also added a few drops of SDS to prevent aggregation. (Actually I didn't have PVP, so I added SDS). Will this work? Also I have stored the sample in the refrigerator.
I have also browsed through many research papers to find out a proper method to synthesize silver nanorods, but I couldn't find a feasible method for me. Could anyone please tell me the method to synthesize silver nanorods? The chemicals available with me are (NaBH4, AgNO3, SDS, Na citrate, Ascorbic acid) I only have access to these chemicals - how can I make silver nanorods using only these chemicals?

Check with the publications of Liz-Marzan's group (Univ. of Vigo, Spain). They have done a lot of metal nanorod synthesis. I know they did gold, but since they were interested in plasmonics, they may also have gone into silver.
In any case, try to understand the nechanism and dynamics of rod growth (as opposed to spherical particle growth) and then learn to control the surface chemistry of your silver objects such as to make anisotropic growth possible.
Whether your list of chemicals suits your needs, I can't tell (I'm not a chemist) - maybe others can.
Sliver nitrate with sodium borohydride can produced a silver nanoparticles this is a seed, then you can use the growth solution from silver nitrate with CTAB and ascorbic acid and you can try to add them with different amount.
I would also consider checking out some of the work done at Georgia Tech by Dr. El-Sayed. They specialize mostly in gold nanorods and nanoparticles, but looking at the recommended method above it is very similar. Gold nanorods use silver as a growth agent, increasing amounts of silver affects the plasmon band shifting.
I would also recommend checking out the following two articles. The type of CTAB that you use is very important, as is the freshness of your sodium borohydride. Again, I realize that these are for gold, but there isn't much difference in the methodology.
