I will do a project on 10kW PV ESS system. It has already been designed (PV+BESS+HEMS), funded by external company and they are using different products of inverter and BMS. I have read research papers regarding load management, metering, HEMS operation and BESS performance..In those papers there are several techniques used for control modeling in system(MPC,MILP etc) and some papers focused on theoretical approach to conduct cost analysis, calculated Payback period,billing price and other parameters. What kind of control modeling and mathematical approach should i use for analyzing PV+BESS, Load management to optimize the installed system ? I am not getting any idea from where to start the research on already designed system.. Responses would be much appreciated

I suggest you to use artificial/ modern optimization algorithm. Example of these algorithms are GA, PSO, MBA, ABC ect. Another option is a hybrid optimization algorithm such as IPF, TLBO, NSPSO,, PSOMCS. artificial algorithms are simpler than hybrid algorithms. However, hybrid algorithm can provide more accurate results in most cases.
The selection of algorithm should be based on the complexity of the system and the variety of the constraints. For example, if your system consist of several energy sources, hybrid algorithm is more recommended as it can handle complex system.
Another factor you need to consider while selecting the algorithm is the computational time. Some algorithms can provide a reasonable optimization results but with relatively long computational time. If you are using the algorithm to only size the system, the computational time factor shouldn't be a concern. But if you want to use the algorithm for power/energy management of the system, you need to consider the computational time.
The below article shows a review of several optimization algorithm for sizing of hybrid renewable energy systems.

Yes. It does not matter. You can use them for both standalone and grid connected. In that paper I covered the algorithms used for standalone systems only. Most of these algorithms have been used in grid-connected systems also.
