Can I use the the FAO Dependable Rain Method to computes monthly effective rainfall?
Pe = 0.8 P - 25 if P > 75 mm/month
Pe = 0.6 P - 10 if P < 75 mm/month
with P = rainfall or precipitation (mm/month)
Pe = effective rainfall or effective precipitation (mm/month)
Or does anyone know any other formula for India?

It depends highly on how much accuracy do you need, how much data do you have available, what is your vegetation type, what is your time resolution... there are several mathematical models to calculate interception (effective rainfall = precipitation - interception at event scale).
I am looking for an equation that does not require too much data so that it can be turned into a smart phone app that would compute Peff in real time, using daily data provided by existing commercial weather sites. I am looking for both accuracy and simplicity.
Moreover, are they any other formula that would give me daily data instead of monthly data ? I could divide the data by the number of days in a given month, but that would not be as accurate as I would like it to be.
