Can we combine two different theories of reference in social research? . For example between structural functional theory and conflict theory. Please give feedback, thank you.
I would say no because by researching we test a theory, we apply one in a particular setting, we modify, we complete a theory, we discover one etc.
But what if we explain a concept of a theory with one from another theory? Isn't it also new knowledge? Maybe we should not mix theories belonging to different paradigms. Like a functional theory with a phenomenological one. But all we study is human related. What if systemic things could be explained by feelings, perceptions etc.
Lately I am more and more convinced that we have to leave ourselves much more liberty in methodological issues. I think we have to let them be more independent from theoretical, paradigmatical approaches. Let us combine everything we want! Research is a creative process!
