We have had several confirmed cases of Zika virus among adults here in Barbados. We are only able to test samples form pregnant women and elderlies. If some one has the testing facility, I would love to collaborate on a study of Zika infection among children.
not at this time as the cases of zika are far and few. i am looking for more of epi studies or clinical studies
There are recent reports that urine is a great clinical specimen to use to identify zika infections. I would suggest that you set up a collaboration with pediatricians (maybe family doctors, Emergency Departments, Urgent Care, etc.) and have them collect (or keep) urine samples so you can test for Zika (epi and clinical study). I can find the papers if you need on urine sampling.
The use of urine to determine zika infections would be a great way to check the status of children, and it would be nice if you could have physicians on several islands compare the patterns (and have mosquito data for comparison to see if population size is related). The two publications linked below by the CDC are up to date and worth reading.
