Yes, C3 plant may get benefit of the increment of CO2 which will reflect in increment in biomass production but the problem will be in increasing temperature which will increase respiration rate (reducing biomass) and will affect negatively fruit set and quality for most of vegetable fruit crops.

in the large scale i think it s gonna be worse for all the plant species. climate changes caused many problems. the big problem is high temperature which will increase transpiration and evapotranspiration. the plant will be drained

In terms of precipitation don't you think that the regimes will be more severe? Like less rain to some areas and much more rain to others (like Tropical areas).

I think that the evaporation occuring in some zones and after it's condensation and precipitation will give some countries a lot of water (that maybe soils can't retain, or because of saturation at a low level deepness or because of area coverage of cities) like happened years ago in India and this year in Brazil.

Good observation Youssef Sassine , although in my view the beneficial impact are less significant compared to the negative impact we're facing and what possible to be in the future.

I heard many scholars stating warming up of temperate areas and melting of glacires are benefits of climate change. I also know that highland areas are being growing C4 crops like maize owing to increment in temperature (which was not a practice before). That might be some truth. However, we in tropics are suffering a lot due to c;imate change and we could not see any of its benefits. Rivers are drying, repeated drought and crop failures are leading to hunger; desertification is expnading; farming comunities are becoming more and more pesimistic. The scientific comminities are doing little to combat it.

All the factors influencing climate change are linked to each other, including the rise in temperature in the earth .. Although cold countries climate will be able to grow some of the crops that could not be cultivated before because of low temperatures, in the agricultural countries seasons and possibility of normal cultivation will change and then will need a new and high managment and agriculture ptactices.. in addition, no doubt that there are agricultural areas will become uncultivable .. the rise of the proportion of carbon dioxide is also not limited to the day period, It also rises at night which may adversely affect the plant, regardless of its impact on living organisms arround this plants..

If climate conditions continue to change altering the normal development of crops, it would affect as well the natural distribution of crops. In my opinion, in the far future, negative impacts of climate change would favor indoor cultivation at the expense of outdoor crops.

In fact, CO2 is essential for growth, however plant production depends also on water supplies. In this point climate change will reduce these supplies through drought and the increase in the seasonal averages of temperature. Increased warming may also have a greater effect on countries whose climate is already near or at a temperature limit over which yields reduce or crops fail – in the tropics or sub-Sahara, for example.

As a solution, the adaptation measures such as shifting planting dates, switching to an existing crop variety, development of new crop varieties as well as changes in crop growing pattern may modulate negative impacts and shape the severity of climate impacts on crop yield and production

Contrary to popular belief, Global Warming is not the only reason for climate change. In fact, Climate change affects the climate in ways we cannot truly understand. For example, hurricanes affecting South east USA, tsunamis happening in Iran, snow in Lebanon during spring and so on.. These places have never witnessed such phenomena, which can be negative on agricultural lands. Therefore, there exists a fluctuation in the climate in places where the usual weather is shifting towards a different kind of weather. However, climate change could be a double edge sword in which it has both a negative and positive effect on agriculture. This is due to the change in weather in areas where precipitation and temperature were unsuitable for agriculture, thus enabling these areas to produce new crops.

I don't think that climatic change is an issue, it's a part of natural cycle as we are entering the third ice age. Therefore it's not something new, the nature and plants will adapt to climatic change. In my opinion the new agricultural practices, techniques and shifting the cultivation season to be more suitable for the crops can cover the damage. As for the increase in CO2 it's true that it can increase plant's photosynthesis performance and consequently increase the yield however on long term it can cause a lot of damage. I think the big question is not how climatic change will affect the agriculture rather how the combination of pollution and excessive human intervention in our nature will affect climatic changes.

Theoretically, an increase in carbon dioxide concentrations will increase photosynthesis and boost plant growth.

Crops use carbon dioxide from the air combined with water and nutrients from the ground to produce sugars, which are the main source of food, fiber and fuel for life on Earth. This means that an increase in carbon dioxide will alter the composition of sugars in plants, modifying the composition of the crops’ nutritional value, and these crops will require more quantities of fertilizers to reach the conventional crop nutrient requirements. Thus, increase in CO2 is not necessarily beneficial to crop productivity.

Practically, increase in CO2 concentrations will have negative consequences such as drought and heat stress that would likely overwhelm any direct benefits for CO2 increment that might offer plant life.

Every change in a system has advantages and disadvantages. climate changes is a natural system that has these two sides. the point is to which side the balance is shifting? of course to the disadvantages. So, unless scientific development and findings help us to mitigate the disadvantages of climate changes, man will face a lot of threatening events.
