Dear colleagues,
In the Glossary to ICOLD Bulletin 148 "Selecting seismic parameters for large dams. Guidelines" there is the following definition of active fault:
A fault, reasonably identified and located, known to have produced historical earthquakes
or showing evidence of movements in Holocene time (i.e. in the last 11,000 years), large faults which
have moved in Latest Pleistocene time (i.e. between 11,000 and 35,000 years ago) and major faults
which have moved repeatedly in Quaternary time (1.8 million years).
However no written distinction is given between a fault, a large fault and a major fault and some ambiguity arises. Are you familiar with any literature sources where the topic is further discussed?
