We need cholesterol, as a precursor to adrenal and sex hormones [ crucial stress response and reproduction and survival of the species]. We also need cholesterol in cell membranes, to stiffen them and in some transport molecules in the blood.
We have the natural physiology to absorb, process and remove cholesterol. We were meant to have cholesterol in our diet.
But as with all things, in excess and over time and age, it has it's harmful effects.
I think that the general fear of "cholesterol" has been amplified many times more than it deserves. For long time, subjects were told not to consume the egg youk, the animal fat....etc as they are rich in cholesterol. Even more, lipid lowering drugs have been widely and routinely prescribed by physicians as an additives even when not indicated!
People must know the fact that cholesterol is essential to their health. That is why our body synthesizes it. With no cholesterol there will be no vitamin D and thus weak bones and fractures. Also steroids and supra-renal hormones will be no longer made! Sex hormones synthesis relies on cholesterol.
This is really a friend! But again do not let this friend turns into enemy. Do not let be in excess. That is all.
