What is your experience with ultrafiltration feed water chlorination in drinking water processes (treating of surface and groundwater)? It is necessary for fouling control or it bring more further problems? Will it affect the life of membranes? Some manufacturers e.g. Inge do not recommend prechlorination - says that chlorine CEB is fair enough for fouling control.

Depends on type of membrane and application. Some membrane materials are tolerant, others are not. I recommend you look at the AWWA's M53 Microfiltration and Ultrafiltration Membranes for Drinking Water (www.awwa.org). Also depends on the permitting requirements and design objectives.There are several operating plants in USA that operate with a disinfectant pretreatment to assist in CT compliance.
UF feed water chlorination is common for fouling control. However, it is not recommended for PP membrane since it can easily damage the membrane (chlorine tolerance < 0.5 ppm). Other membrane material mah have better chlorine resistance such as polysulfone (up to 50 ppm) and PVDF (up to 5000 ppm)
