I was recently awarded with a fellowship and my proposal will use qualitative methodology. I have done some background check on the use of softwares (e.g. nVivo) but training costs a lot and the use of othe IT to make data more manageable (e.g. transcribing softwares).
Qualitative software is used for analyzing the data after you collect it, so you should begin by connecting your research question to a method for collecting data. (Also, all of the major software packages have high quality video tutorials available, when the time comes.)
Can you tell us more about the topic of your research?
Thanjks David! My study is still on its very early stage. I am interested in exploring the subject of adherence/compliance among adolescent patients. I am interested in understanding the concept of adherence from te patient's prespective. I am coming from a clinical observation where a number of our patients experience bad outcomes due to issues with adherence.
I must say that ias an undergraduate, I've had some experience with qualitative work and doing everything manually. However, after reading and asking around, I've had mixed feedback about the utility of softwares. I am quite a technocrat and has a knack for using technology, so a part of my preparation is trying to experience the use of softwares. This would also be useful to gain as preparation for a future PhD level of study where more interviews might be necessary.
I hope this makes sense. I just wanted some feedback from other people who is actually doing "qualitative research" for a living as you have the actual practical experience to give tips on how to prepare for a budding researcher like me. Thanks in advance.
