I endorse Leon Gordis's Epidemiology. For more advanced courses Gordis followed by Modern Epidemiology by Kenneth Rothman make a great 1-2 combination.
I would recommend "Epidemiology" by Gordis, too. We use this book in our epidemiology module in the masters course "Health Economics". In my mind, this book is very useful.
I also think that Rothman KJ. Epidemiology: An Introduction. Oxford University Press, and Hebel JR. & McCarter RJ. Study Guide to Epidemiology and Biostatistics, 2006 are solid options as well.
Gordis's book is the best option for newcomers. Easy understood, vivid and captivating. For everything further I recommend you https://www.amazon.com/Handbook-Epidemiology-Wolfgang-Ahrens/dp/038709833X.
It is everything in one: designs, communicable and non-communicable diseases, spatial epidemiology, statistics...
