The researcher would like to know why Britain has put an end to the activity of the East India Company at a time when the company has assisted Britain in its activities abroad
The activity of the East India Company was particularly important during the reign of Shah Abbas and benefited from the decline of other European powers to strengthen its activity in Isfahan and to increase activity in the port of Bandar Abbas.
After 1857 there was no more role for the Honourable East India Company (HEIC) as Britain took direct control over India as a colony. After the Indian Rebellion of 1857 (Sepoy mutiny, India's first war for independence), the Government of India Act 1858 led to the British Crown's assuming direct control of the Indian subcontinent. It became the British Raj. In 1874 the HEIC then was abolished. The HEIC had been established in 1600 and took over India much later. Initially it was more engaged in trade with other parts of Asia, but in the 18th centruy it more and more became a political / administrative force in India when Mughal power declined. It then first took control over Bengal and soon after over other presdencies. At its geight of power it had an army of more than 250,000 soldiers, all except the highest ranks made up by Indians. It became the administrator of most of India (except the Princely States) in 1757.
