Presently,fibers such as bamboo, jute, linen, hemp, etc are being paid more attention in the making of natural fiber composites.

Short and simple answer is Yes. Rest depends upon how you are producing the composite using cotton fibers, i.e. what are constituents, composition, and production method.
Sure it can be.. I have cryogenically grinded cotton to nano size abd many paper prepare nano cotton using e g ultrasonic. Other by dissolving cotton in suitable solvents.
yes, but researchers are looking to bring more natural bioresources because cotton has been known for a long time. Secondly, Cotton production may not be sufficient to meet the need and therefore a good reason to diversify into other cellulosic materials.

research in the area of FRP reinforced with natural fibers is developing in evident rates rates (see attached file).
Natural fibers can be divided into three subgroups:
- Vegetable cellulose based fibers like cotton, flax or sisal
- Animal fibers based on proteins like wool or silk
- Mineral fibers based on glass, basalt or asbestos (no more used)
The existence of cellulose as a common material of plant cell walls was first recognized in 1830’s. Nearly 150 billion tons of cellulose is built up by photosynthesis each year and about the same amount is decomposed, mainly through molder or burning. Cellulose is a complex carbohydrate consisting of 3000 or more glucose units. As basic structural component of cell walls cellulose comprise about one third of all vegetable matter. In nature, cotton is the purest form of cellulose containing 90%.
Actually a major drawback of using natural fibers as reinforcement in polymers is the incompatibility of the surface properties of the fiber to the matrix polymer. This is resulting in poor adhesion between natural fibers and matrix resins This subsequently leads to low tensile properties.
Improvement of fiber-matrix interfacial bonding for enhance the tensile properties of the composites will be a solution. This must be correlated to novel processing techniques as well as a chemical and physical modification of the fiber itself.
In principle a problem which can be solved. So my clear statement: "'Cotton Fibers will play an important role in the making of natural fiber composites"

The basic requirement of a reinforcement material to enhance the mechanical property of the biocomposite is low micro-fibril angle that give low elongation and high initial modulus . This is the basic requirement of composite material and it give good impact resistance and flexural resistance. only bast fibres has less than 10 degree microfibril angle and gave less than 2% elongation at break (which can also match with elongation at break of thermo-setting resin ) while cotton has >15 degree microfibril angle with 6-8.5% elongation at break that cannot give good modulus.
We can go for cotton R&D purpose but for good mechanical property it is not advisable
yes... but depends on the purpose and context. it is a good component of a composite, it could be mixed with many both natural and synthetic polymers in forming fibre reinforced composites. It could also be used in making simple composites.

Obviously the second important component for making composites is compatibility between fibre and resin. Cotton has 6% moisture regain and it is also a main issue. We can make composite but the mechanical property is an challenging?
