Can we use ZnO instead of TiO2 when we want to produce masterbatch?
for example, when we want to produce whiteness masterbatch, we use TiO2 and Polymer. Now can we use ZnO instead of TiO2?
In case of coatings ZnO - gives matt hue while TiO2 - magnificently bright one
Titanium dioxide is probably the whitest substance known (?). if you substitute other minerals, such as ZnO or BaSO4, you will have less brightness / whiteness, and change other properties (yellowing as Andrei mentioned for ZnO).
You need to decide if you are substituting on a volume fraction basis, as this will affect the density of the compound, based on these mineral densities:
TiO2 4.23
BaSO4 4.5
ZnO 5.61
If the problem is only whiteness, I can use PE graft-maleic anhydrid. when I use it the masterbatch is more whiteness.
