selection of nano fluids depends on the choice of application
generally in heat transfer perspective to increase thermal conductivity of the fluid
metals in nano form be added to them.
In your perspective which parameter you want to analyze, either to increase heat transfer or to reduce emissions or to increase thermal efficiency of the engine
if your perspective is not heat transfer you should not add metal nano particles which may be clogged in the combustion chamber
there is an other possibility to use nano particles as fuel, aluminium nano particles on addition of water liberate significant amount of hydrogen due to oxidation. This hydrogen may be used as a fuel for power generation.
In this case you can add nanofluids as fuel additives in avery very low volume fraction to diesel or biodiesel which has already proven to increase combustion rate leaading to higher efficiency.Researchers of USA have achieved to increase 10-25% combustion efficiency by adding 0.5% of aluminum nano- particles to a rocket’s solid fuel. Further, nanofluids are able to reduce Nox gas formation during combustion.
But it is still in experimental stage, not yet applied in commercial vehicles as to change fuel for combustion the components of the combustion chamber has to changed accordingly.
Very interesting, cement industry is using long time oxygen enrichment supplied in liquid especially now to improve combustion of alternate fuel,if nano fluid additives will do the same then is question of costs and combustion safety.I am open for next discussion due to our practical pilot development experience.PAVEL MARTAUZ
