I know Estimation of Distribution Algorithm (EDA) is a stochastic optimization methods belongs to the class of evolutionary algorithms. However, I am not so sure, if I can classify it as a meta-heuristic algorithm? if yes, please refer me to a valid reference for that.

Since you know EDA belonged to EA, it is a metaheuristic. On the other thand, according the definition of metaheuristic on wiki, EDA satiesfies the requirements. In addition, EDA is able to solve contintous, discrete, and combinatorial problems.
