However, we must keep in mind that Covid-19 is unlikely to be a meteorit.
It is without any doubt the result of human misconduct and wrong behavior with environment and planet since at leats 5 decades (in fact 2 centuries) of intensive exploitation and hurting of the nature and wasting of natural ressources.
Why could Covid-19 (the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus) be considered an environmental disaster? Covid-19 only has a direct effect on human health. But what is the direct negative impact on the environment?
Just to avoid confusion: my comment was meant as an honest question because I am not aware of environmental impacts. I am more than happy to be presented with other perspectives and to change mine accordingly!
Waste from Covid patients is of course an issue, however, I reckon that it is not a big one in terms of environmental impact.
I would guess that the pandemic rather has a positive effect on the environment e.g. due to the decrease in traffic (fewer cars, relatively few flights).
Benni Thiebes ،yes of course the virus has positive and negative impacts on the environment but at the end it impact the environment, thanks for your answer dear I appreciate your answers indeed.
The virus that causes Covid-19 allegedly came from a livestock market in Wuhan China, which was definitely from the environment. The virus spreads from person to person in a rapid manner, making it contagious. Therefore the virus is both environmental disaster and contagious
I affirm that COVID-2019 is a contagious disease, but I think that we can also consider it as an environmental disaster because it involves man as one of the evironmental component that is being highly affected by this pandemic.
'' I would guess that the pandemic rather has a positive effect on the environment e.g. due to the decrease in traffic (fewer cars, relatively few flights)''
Then shall we conclude that covid -19 is a big chance for the planet and for humanity?
Is it that the planet will be ''very clean'' when it will be fully populated with covid-19 and with no human beings on it because covid-19 is killing people at an increasing rate worldwide?
COVID - 19 is more of an environmental issue than a contagion ailment. This is because its origins have been attributed to the closeness of human beings and animals in an urban environment. As the urban environment and landscape decreases, more humans are enclosing unto the animals corridors, which has all the potential to exacerbate occurrence of diseases. COVID 19 is showing us the need for environmental balance.
Corona flu, it’s a contagious disease we know, when anything happens in epidemic form and its effect, we consider as a disaster, so we could regard Covid19 as an environmental disaster.
Some experts appreciate that when we disrupt ecosystems and species, we risk releasing viruses from their natural hosts, which can affect humans.
According to researcher Sergio Lacambra, 60% of all infectious diseases in humans are transmitted by animals, and this percentage increases to 70%, talking about new contagious diseases. It is directly related to the fact that humans are invading forests that host countless species of animals and, within them, unexplored and potentially new viruses.
