With advent of new materials and technology, are there any ways to harness the energy from lightning?

Thank you very much Prof.Björn Hoffmann and Prof.Joachim . I searched google a bit. But I thought that discussion with researchers of different research fields (like material scientists especially) would be very fruitful. Also the idea of "Hygroelectricity" is very much interesting, though I didn't understand the phenomenon well :)
It has been proposed that the energy contained in lightning be used to generate hydrogen from water, or to harness the energy from rapid heating of water due to lightning,(a) or to use inductors spaced far enough away so that a safe fraction of the energy might be captured.(b)

Different form of energy can be harnessed from the lightning. But it becomes complex to handle that higher amount. Normally lightning have more than 100000KV how to manage it in proper way. How the protection system will work? these different issues create some problem.
