I was impressed by a recent IEEE story on the potential to lower earth temperature by using the exhaust from large ships to generate clouds. https://spectrum.ieee.org/climate-change What a wonderful idea. The authors are intending to spray sea water into the ship exhaust to produce small salt nuclei that cause fine water droplets to form. I thought to myself, maybe making a smoke would be a good alternative approach, the smoke serving as the nuclei. I wonder, would injecting a little ammonia into the ship exhaust be a useful means? Might it react with CO2 and H20 in the exhaust to make an ammonium carbonate smoke, and in turn cause bright cloud formation? Is there a viable side benefit of carbon capture or ocean fertilization?
