Sir I hope you are doing well. I have read your works and they have been thought-provoking indeed. However, with all respect, I am of the opinion that we ought to desist from propagating the idea of de-westernization per se. I have had interactions with Prof. Shelton Gunaratne too in this regard and I have come to the conclusion that this de-westernization 'movement' will only lead to counter-resistance and further polarisations/ fragmentations. As Swami Vivekananda once said, "Never talk about the faults of others, no matter how bad they may be. Nothing is ever gained by that. You never help one by talking about his fault; you do him an injury, and injure yourself as well." (CW VI)

'Yoga', etymologically meaning 'union',  is one of the fundamental principles of 'Indian Communication Thought' and this union has to be both within and beyond. We, as Indian academics, have to embrace this spirit ourselves first. Thus, we need to strive towards the fulfillment of the union of western and eastern, more specifically, Indian communication thoughts. If we cannot do so, we shall only be following the same line of thought and action as has been practised by Western thinkers all the while and, in the process, failing in our duty as academic representatives of this great nation of ours.

Dear Kapil Thanks for your views on de-Westernizing media studies. The scholars working in this field have attempted to convey this idea by using different terms such as --Internationalizing Media Studies (Thussu, 2010), Globalizing Media Studies (Gunaratne, 2016). In any case by intending to convey this, and in the process of attempting to explain Indian research from Indian systems of communication prevalent from the times immemorial (refer to your own works) we are not trying to antagonize the West but we are trying to inform the West the incompatibility/incommensurability of the Western theories to Indian media and its culture. I hope you had read my latest paper ...Incommensurability/irrelevance of Western communication theories ..published in International Communication Gazette. Rogers himself admitted that there are problems in relating Western communication theories to Indian environment. After his work on Kheda and Jabhua, he wrote a paper that there are gaps in two step model of communication. I am glad that you quoted Swami Vivekananda. I am an admirer and ardent devotee of Swamiji. While your quote of Swamiji in our temptation to find fault with others is true, and need to be followed every minute of our life, you may kindly note that Swamiji himself has shown to the West as to what it missed with regard to the unique position of India philosophy and Anusthan Vedanta (practical Vedic practices). Swamiji always continues to inspire us in continuing the mission Swamiji himself shouldered a century back. I shall end this missive by quoting Swamiji himself: You may be a drop in an Ocean but never mind that still there is an Ocean behind you. The spirit behind my mission in advocating de-Westernizing media studies/Indian studies is exactly this not to hurt anybody. Further in academics there is nothing personal. Even Einstein was critiqued for his Ether theory by his own best friends Rutherford, Neils Bohr, Max Plank, but in due course they apologized to him for their lapse. One day this world will turn to East which it called as 'Orient' assuming an arrogant stand that 'Orient' is an object for the West which describes itself as a subject.
