Dear colleagues, in recent years, I have been working in the field of industrial microbiology and I have focused on the production of eumelanin and pyomelanin pigments. I want to determine the molecular weight and chemical formula of the pigments I have produced. Can we calculate the molecular weight of melanin pigment using MALDI TOF MS / MS?
I would be very happy if you would share your opinions and suggestions with me on this object.
Note: The pigments of eumelanin and pyomelanin that I produce are dissolved in DMSO solution. Insoluble in water, alcohol and acid solvents.
Further, i would like to cooperate in areas such as drug carrier properties, antiproliferative effects and semiconductor properties of these pigments. For this purpose, I am looking for laboratories to collaborate with. I can send pigment samples to laboratories that want to cooperate. I would be very happy if you have any suggestions or cooperation offers.
I can share my under review article and analysis results (NMR, FT-IR, XRD) with scientists who are willing to cooperate.

Before we suggest, you need to add the probable/conformed structure, structure class, source, probable/known, molecular weight, purity, molecular characteristics (hydrophobicity etc.) and what and which mass information, mass fragmentations for what purpose you need!

In the last two years, I have focused on bioproduction of melanin pigment. In this process, I have produced eumelanin and pyomelanin pigments from many different microorganisms. These pigments have been analyzed by FT-IR, NMR and XRD. Recently, I started to obtain eumelanin pigments from plant sources in addition to bacterial pigments. I can say that all the pigments I produce are 99.9% pure. Chemical formula C18H10N2O4. These pigments are dissolved in DMSO solution. Insoluble in water, alcohol and acid solvents.
Obviously, I want to work on the drug carrier properties of this pigment.

Pl don't say that you get/produced 99.9% pure product, rather confirm it by spectroanalytical means! Is the molecular formula based on elemental analysis (C, H, N, etc.) and/or high-resolution mass (HRMS)? Was purity checked by the quantitative chromatographic method? How purity was achieved? The DMSO solubility is not of much help for further chemical work! You may get the mass (molecular mass, molecular weight) by the MALDI-TOF and it needs to be in concurrence with the elemental analysis, and the molecular formula projected! From mass, where you intend to go? You have not mentioned the quantity produced per unit?
MALDI-TOF (mass/charge ratio) may give you molecular mass but as Riaz A. Khan mentioned you need to confirm the elemental analysis of the pigment to assure its quality you can go for FTIR, XPS, and XRD for the same. I hope it helps.
