So far I have synthesized cadmium sulphide using sodium sulphide by chemical precipitation method but when I tried using thiourea there was no reaction taking place. Only a light yellowish color appeared after 17 hours of stirring. Can anyone tell me what would be the reason for it?

I think that you need control over the pH, and by this way you can produce a Cadmiun Sulphide a very quickly with nice optical, structural, sizes properties.

Dear Jasper. I just answer another question from you dealing exactly the same problem but with another material -cdse. I am not aware on your background but I feel you definitely need to get some basic chemistry courses, even self teaching works, before or while you try to do nanoscience. I mean it because you could be even working with dangerous substances without the necessary care. Please take the comment possitively and look for this basic training.
In genal, thiourea and sodium sulfide has been used for the CdS deposition. There is no problem at precursor. However, pH, temperature is key pamameter. For example, As you increased bath's temperature suddenly, precipitation occurred in the solution except the substrate. Therefore, you should have lots of experiences on that.
