In most nonlinear optics papers, the saturation intensity (I_sat) is reported under pulsed laser excitation, particularly with nanosecond or femtosecond pulses. Is the determination of I_sat only possible with pulsed lasers, or can it also be measured under continuous-wave (CW) excitation? If it is possible (or not), could you please explain the reasons behind it?
