I recently completed some temporal isothermal crystallisation (XRD data) of some compounds (non-polymers) that display significant supercooling. Their crystallisation under isothermal conditions was expected since they supercooled, suggesting that the solidification behaviour is not controlled by thermodynamic but kinetic factors mostly. After looking at some papers I only see the equations being applied to only polymers.
The answer is yes. L-H theory can be used in crystal growth of all kinds of melts, including melts in metallurgy, glass industries, geology.
My answer is "no". Because the L-H theory consists of many parameters which are conceptually and thermodynamically related to the dynamics of macromolecules. As you point out, soldification behavior of non-polymeric crystalline materials is governed by kinetic factors. For example, how can you calculate, predict or ignore different regimes and/or chain diffusion term to growing crystal face for non-polymeric materials? In my point of view, some proper physical and mathematical modifications might be needed on the theory for simplifying some issues.
