I am working on orthoferrites and studying their dielectric properties. One of the samples I prepared shows a dielectric relaxation peak (observed in real part of dielectric constant, at high frequency). Near the same frequency range, the imaginary part of dielectric constant take negative value. Is it possible to have negative value of imaginary part of dielectric constant? What does it mean?

I think the answer is no. generally, the imaginary part of dielectric constant represents the loss (thermodynamic loss), which cant be negative value.
I am also working on orthoferrites. As per my knowledge, the answer is no because as also said by srikanth imaginary parts of dielectric represents the loss, so it can not be negative. Please tell me that how you calculate the imaginary part then I can help you.
Perhaps you could let us know about the measuring system you are applying.

I am also working on orthoferrites.. I think that the values of dielectric constant are small with respect to the scales and you takes symbols which are large . i,e the symbols appear in negative scale
If I take active media? Maybe in this case imaginary part is negative.
