I am using C11-BODIPY 581/591 to stain B-progenitors (B220+ cells) from Black6 mice. I use flow cytometry to get a read out of the dye.

The Life Technologies website mentions that to quantify the amount of lipid oxidation within the cells a ratio of the fluorescence shift from Red to Green is the best readout. The lower the ratio, the higher the lipid oxidation and vice versa.

However, my question is whether you can consider the red and green fluorescence on their own without the ratio? And what that would mean in terms of lipid oxidation in the cell?
