In my state children suffering from specific learning disabilities have educational concessions like 1. extra one hour time 2. scribe 3. use of calculator 4. overlooking spelling mistakes and grammatical error 5. Exemption from second language. Recently the govt has introduced exemption from second language and extra time of 1 hour for children/ people with Mild MR. I request thoughts of others regarding this.
In pakistan same practices prevail only in special education school setups for specific learning disabilities but for mild MR i am not clear. Infact educational concession for children with specific learning disbaility were recently introducted.
Thanks Nelofar Ma'm for your thoughts. In India concessions have been there for Specific Learning Disability for a long time. Recently the state of TamilNadu had introduced some concessions for Mild MR. I would like opinion of Mental health professionals regarding the same..

There is nothing wrong with devoting more time and effort to those struggling with literacy and academic learning, just as Shailesh would have benefited from spending more time on the above comment. However, there should be a level playing field, all children should be judged on merit by the same standards. Hence deaf children, for example, should be given the same reading tests as everyone else and scored in the same way.
Well dear Jagdeeshan you seem to be my v. junior as far as a medical field is concerned. Hi to you. Well, education is not the means to distribute freebies or some means of making a gizmo out of a stone. Well in reality it does but figuratively. Tests are means to take out the best or atleast averages in the particular field so that they could serve to the society and country. just because there are not sufficient students or suitable students we won't distribute degrees or even school degree at the doorsteps. Unfortunately in many laidback states in this world have taken education as a means of distributing alms, are recreational and leisure outhouses or are for vested political activism or some other kinds of queer propositions. Whatever we discuss in a classroom or work in labs, or if I talk in terms of medical college of a regime near patients bed.. all has general purpose the purpose to the cosmos around us. It does relate to diaspora in general and the rationale.
It would be deadly dangerous if one day a housewife cooking good pickle or a boy like yourself having a good score on PSP or a guy like me solving some nice sudokus or even having spreadout some so-so book or other articles, is awarded a Nobel prize!
Now, as far as a student with some defect is concerned very important is does that impair the final reproduction of this facility, would he be able to deliver.
If its just for cheering up then I'd say we should think over it.
But, if a student having specific defects which could be repaired and there are many and that gives society a useful citizen then specific neurological or other ailments could be taken care of.
I give you one positive light after that gloomy appearing passage, and that is, every human being is good at some thing, education many a times covers it... puts it off.
We can get better lives and wonderful talents out of many socalled handicaps.. well we do come across like I also deal with neurospastic, retarded children or those with some grade of hearing, speech or movement dosorders. There are other aspects and they are huge.
Not having convented is no curse..if we could give that kind of world though.
