The history of wound treatment tells us that none of herbal materials was ever efficient in the pre-antiseptic era. We also must not confuse disinfection with promotion of wound healing. Among substances no longer considered as antiseptics, the most promising effect was once provided by oil of turpentine (oleum terebinthinae).
