My question is that can specific plant proteins (extracted from plant cells) if blended with a polymer, could enhance the efficiency of a filtration membrane? If not then why?
It is possible to integrate proteins into polymers, e.g., amyloids. You are likely to lose protein functionality though, due to the harsh manufacturing conditions. However, proteins are being widely used to modify membrane surfaces. An example is biomimetic membranes, which use proteins impregnated on membrane surface for desalination.

Life of the membrane - it can - for examle the biodegradability can be increased.
