I asked similar question today. There are several options depending on what is the stability of your product.
I found one interesting option while googlin' : Formic acid reacts with SOCl2 to form gaseous products: CO, SO2 and HCl. I have never tried this but it sounds reasonable.
We are currently making 2 or 3 acid chlorides a day using SOCl2, evaporation under vaccuum is fine, at 20 degrees. Now I agree that it is also dependant on the stability of your compounds
I belive that if you are preparing acetyl chloride, this will boil first and thionyl chloride will remain in the flask. But if you need to avoid distillation for other reason, I think HCOOH is a good old choice. Best wishes-
