Can someone recommend any archival measure for Entrepreneurial Orientation at the firm level? I would appreciate any recommended articles in the Macro area that has used such measure?
Take a look at this paper. I do not know if it can help, but their dictionary is very commonly used in this endeavor. https://academic.csuohio.edu/kneuendorf/c63310/Shortetal10.pdf
Thanks dear Mohamed Tailab ! I am aware of this paper and it is indeed a very interesting one that offers a unique approach to capture the construct. I am also looking for as many measures as possible. Thanks a lot
Hi Marwan, I think this may be what you're looking for: Kreiser and colleagues (forthcoming, ETP) use compustat Data to proxy for firm EO. An earlier paper paper in ETP, Miller and Breton-Miller, does something similar for the innovativeness and proactiveness dimensions of EO.
Kreiser, P. M., Anderson, B. S., Kuratko, D. F., & Marino, L. D. (2019). Entrepreneurial orientation and environmental hostility: A threat rigidity perspective. Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, 1042258719891389.
Miller, D., & Le Breton-Miller, I. (2011). Governance, social identity, and entrepreneurial orientation in closely held public companies. Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, 35(5), 1051–1076.
Apologies for being unclear - the Kreiser et al paper (the first that I listed) is still forthcoming, the 2019 version is online only. Miller & Le Breton-Miller use compustat variables to compute a portion of their measures.
One of the most known measures in Entrepreneurial Orientation is:
- Knight, Gary A. (1997) Cross-Cultural Reliability and Validity of a Scale tp Measure Firm Entrepreneurial Orientation, Journal of Business Venturing, Volume 12, pp. 213-225.
You can look at Ana Lisboa pubications. One of my PhD student Filip Nowacki completed his PhD in 2017 on a company's entrepreneurial orientation. You can try to contact him but I am not sure if he is active on the RG.( he moved to business). If you are interested in a company"s orientations I think that you could look at a number of publications on a market/marketing orientation (for instance Hooley et.al, Greenley, etc.).
