I am preparing study on the using of social public information on territorial behavior and distribution of birds. I would like to broadcast songs of forests and farmland birds . I am very interested in opinions of more experiences colleagues about the kind of device used in playback experiments. In my study I would like to use mp3 player (I think about Creative ZEN X-Fi3) connected via bluetooth with a portable speaker (I m not quite sure which to choose...). Do you have idea which producer/ model is the best (for example which portable speaker works long on batteries) , have the idea about price-quality ratio and which set of products would you recommend for using in field conditions.
I will be grateful for any suggestion.

In the field, I'm using small Logitech MiniBoombox loudspeaker, which has all features you need.
The only thing to consider is power supplying, if you want to install it for longer (more than one day) time. Some portable 12 v batteries with proper charger could be good solution.

We have used playback at sunset and during the night during a study on the distribution and ecology of Stone Curlews on Tenerife, Canary Islands. We used a short registration of one of the most typical calls of the species and we play it normally from the car at high volume, using mp3. In any case, I have also used a iWin mp4 with two iWin loudspeakers, but mostly for small passerines, with good results.
