The periphery from mainland India Assam has several diverse and rich languages among various ethnic communities. Many upcoming film makers made films and videos projecting their aspirations and thinking in local vernacular languages. But they get less attention from national media and also audiences in comparison to power languages such as English and even Hindi.

Thanks madam for your enlightening answer on particular topic in the context as Kinhole. In our nearby state Manipur, lot of documentary films has been produced during present time. Some of those documentaries also got award in national and international level. But due to made in regional languages and its touching socio political issues, those films are always in suppression as a whole as without getting wider circulation and sponsorship and only limited to local viewers only.
In Pakistan a completely different scenario took place. Changing in the socio-political environment led to the decline of Urdu cinema but the films in regional languages like Punjabi and Pushto really took off. This period lasted for almost two decades. But as for the question, yes it is true mainstream and regional cinema cannot flourish together.
Thanks Malik and Muzamill madam for responding and support on my raising issue on this topic. I think, before possibility of International market, regional cinema should get support from surrounding people, authority. Otherwise it will not survive.
Definitely, Yes, Nothing is impossible in this Digital Age. As You know that Indian Cinema has celebrating its 100th Year, It not only consist the Hindi Cinema, But also all the regional cinema also. And You also Know that Indian Scientist are already working on MultiLingual Technologies, which includes Regional as per as International Languages. So Let's Wait and Watch, How the Regional Cinema will surely be considered as Mainstream cinema.....In Future....!!
Mainstream cinema enjoy advantage because they are in center. This however does not mean regional cinema whether Telagu or Kannada, for example, do not get attention. To use theoretical texture to my answer, the power of mainstream cinema may be higher but because power is web-like not hierarchical (as Foucault would say), we can not ascertain that regional one are always in disadvantage. You can use Foucault's insight to give theoretical vigor to the specific examples other scholars have given. All the best for your project.
In Spain we have films in Catalan language which receive grants from the catalan government and some of them are distributed in all the country but only a few arrive to cinema. I don't know in other countries but here films made in a minority language is often a political question
Yes absolutely same opinion with Aina Reynes Linares. Northeast India, comprising of eight states, has 483 numbers of ethnic communities with diverse language/ cultures and most of the communities has no scripts. So film would be vital vehicle to communicate the self and the other.....
