I am synthesizing a nano composite. Will IR data give any quantitative information in regards of the filler concentration? Do peak area plays any role in contrast with the concentration?
Dera Varun, if the molar aborption coeffeicient does not change with concenration, you can get quantitative infomation but only if you prepare a calibration curve by producing samples of different, precisely known concentration. Don't forget that you have plot aborbance (ant not transmission) against the concentration.
Yes, in principle you may get thins kind of information but
- only if there is minimum overlap between the IR bands of the filler an of the matrix material
- if you an prepare a series of concentrations for calibration purposes
- if the characteristic band(s) no not depend on the degree of agglomeration
- you may even get interaction information if there is a H-bonding between the filer and the polymer
