The main concern is that acetolysis solution reacts violently with water. Using pure methanol should be fine as long as you’re sure to get the water out and mix the remaining material up well so there are no remaining pockets of water. Also, add the acetysis solution slowly at first to assess the speed and vigor of the reaction.
