Hello.. You Can identify algae up to genus level through microscopic examination following their morphological characteristics. You can refer Iyenger and Desikachary 1981 for the identification of blue-green algae. You can also use research papers for further identification. Genomic analysis is essential for identification up to species level.

I think that it would be useful for you take a course in general phycology and another on the group in which you are interested, I understand that you are the Cyanophyta or Cyanobacteria.

However, the determination can not be made by mere comparison of drawings or photos without understanding the differential characters of the taxa you are viewing.
